Leftovers blanket

See also the current knitting projects, finished projects list, knitting links, patterns to try, and yarn reviews, or go back to the index.

This blanket will be made from seven 36 inch long strips sewn together. I might line it with some kind of fleece afterwards. The strips will be made from yarn leftovers and odd balls of stuff I wanted to try, this page is to keep track of which project the yarn came from.

Blanket with three strips sewn up.

Strip One

Blanket strip one.

Completed 17th June 2005

This strip is made from leftovers of sock yarn. The red is Reynolds Swizzle, from which I made my first ever pair of socks. Next is KnitPicks Simple Stripes yarn in Vineyard, from my first Magic Loop socks. Next along is Regia in the Lampion colourway which was used to make socks for Sarah when she moved to Virginia. The blue is Regia Norweger, bought on 3rd March 2004 on my birthday yarn store crawl.

Strip Two

Started 17th June 2005
Completed 28th November 2005

Blanket strip two.

Contains more of the Regia Norweger. Also includes the leftovers from Hubby's first socks made from Mountain Colors Bearfoot yarn in Pheasant, orange Classic Elite Bazic Wool bought on 26th November while Hubby was preparing his Thanksgiving sermon, and some green Debbie Bliss Cashmerino Aran originally bought to make another hairband.

Strip Three

Started 28th November 2005
Completed 6th March 2006

Blanket strip three.

Contains the rest of the green Cashmerino Aran, the blue Cashmerino I used for two hairbands, and the Harvest Moon Socks That Rock leftovers. The Tiger Sock leftovers were next, though I did have to wait until I got the socks finished, which put this project on hold for a while. After that was the navy Paton's Kroy used for a bow knot scarf for my father-in-law, finishing with some pink Cashmerino. Some of the Kroy was held back to be used for sewing the first three strips together.

Strip Four

Started 23rd May 2006
Completed 30 May 2006

Blanket strip four.

Started with the leftovers from my Mother's socks, KnitPicks Simple Stripes in Storm. Found a knot in one ball and had to cut out a section of the blue stripe. Next is a ball of maroon RY Classic Cashsoft bought at the yarn store in Guildford during our Christmas 2005 England trip. Got bored with that and switched to the KnitPicks Essential leftover from Hubby's socks, then back to the maroon to finish. This strip is Copleston High School uniform colours circa 1991.

Strip Five

Started 10th January 2007
Completed 9th May 2007

Blanket strip five.

Contains Lorna's Laces from Roxanne's socks, Opal Rainforest Owl, Twisted, and pink Cashmerino Aran.

Strip Seven

Started 30 May 2006
Completed 18 June 2006

Blanket strip seven.

Contains Classic Elite Bazic Wool bought November 29th 2005, starting with beige, then red, then black and purple, bought 3rd June 2006. This strip is wider than the others, I think the yarn is a heavy worsted weight. This will be the final strip because it's sturdy, bulletproof, and very warm. Three balls wouldn't have quite been enough, so I'm going to use less of the red, black and purple to make decent colour chunks. This will be sewn in last. Found a knot join in the purple ball.
